Preview plan for Deus Ex
Square Enix introduced a fresh pre-order system... locking in assets that are already made, reviewed, and ready to ship. Polygon captured the essence of this move effectively.
Consumers are making early commitments. Shift the focus from market issues to personal choices. Unfortunately, self-assessment remains out of reach for many.
It's a DLC that you can reserve now, but instead of digital content, it comes in physical form.
I don’t matter what they’re providing or what hidden features are locked by a pre-order barrier—I won’t risk my money on an unfinished title.
It only occurs since some fools continue preordering. If everyone ceased, this situation would end.
The additional task is mostly the only drawback, the packs are debatable if they're exclusive items rather than cosmetics. Avoid exaggerating it into something it isn't, as that would be a mutual loss for both sides. Other titles have handled this on Steam before, so it's not a new concept.
I believe TotalBiscuit captured the issue accurately: this approach feels anti-consumer because it restricts access to content. Those who wish to secure everything by pre-ordering will likely resort to piracy since alternative methods aren’t available (unless there’s a simple workaround like an .ini file). This also encourages consumers to promote pre-orders among friends so the developers can earn more rewards. It seems quite shortsighted of them, mainly due to content restrictions. I personally don’t pre-order and usually disregard such discussions, but this level of manipulation in their setup is really concerning.
I and my friends stopped preordering with Aliens:CM. That was my final preorder and it will remain that way. Thanks for the video. Deus Ex is now on the ignore list. I didn’t buy Unity, Watch Dogs, Dead Space 3, Evolve or any of those. Companies who want me to get scammed can stop. I don’t need their fake games.
