This situation has occurred a couple of times, yet I often overlook asking about it. In the end, turning off the power supply or disconnecting the mains from my PC and holding the power button resets the CMOS. That’s actually normal. During a holiday I went on vacation and left the mains plug connected to my PC, holding the power button for ten seconds to discharge any leftover energy. When I returned, it refused to boot because it was trying to start from my old hard drive, and at that moment the CMOS had been reset—though I didn’t realize what caused it. On another occasion, while cleaning dust from the components, I repeated the same steps, but after turning the PSU off and holding the button while cleaning, the system still showed the same CMOS reset message when I powered it up.
It seems your CMOS battery is likely depleted. Unless you disconnect it, it won't show any issues. Try unplugging it briefly to check if the reset occurs.
I've already attempted that, but it didn't work. Still, is it still a good idea to replace the battery?
Clear inquiry. Concerned about cost, though. I recently swapped the battery on my mother's board because its CMOS kept resetting during shutdowns. I believe we spent roughly 3 to 5 euros for a double pack (CR 2032). It seems the battery might not be completely dead but rather nearing it, retaining power long enough before data loss occurs (just an assumption). You'd likely need to remove it and test it with a battery checker.
