Pressing Alt+Tab in any game decreases FPS.
I've experienced significant FPS drops for about four months whenever I press alt tab while playing games. It's so severe that I used to play Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege at around 600 FPS before alt tab, but it would crash to just 30-60 frames and become very choppy. I've tried various solutions, but they only reset the FPS temporarily until I press alt tab again. Even after restarting my PC, changing settings, or reinstalling the game, it doesn't fully recover. This issue started suddenly and hasn't changed despite checking previous drivers. Another case is with Roblox: when I start at 700-800 FPS, every time I press alt tab or use certain keyboard shortcuts, the frame rate drops drastically—jumping from 700 to 30, then 60, 80, and finally settling around 80.
It also lowers graphics in specific situations during Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
My setup includes an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X with six cores and 32 GB of RAM, paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Asustek VG278 monitor at 165 Hz. I also utilize G-Sync for both full screen and windowed modes.
thats normal seeing as the program isn't being highlighted theres no reason for it to be running at 600fps , even my computer does that with minecraft
I understand that, though I use unlimited settings on many games. That means even with a FPS limit, my PC should handle it, but it still doesn’t work.
I don't believe you fully understood my point. If your game isn't centered on Windows, it won't be prioritized and FPS will drop. Return it to focus instead of switching to another app you're using.
For the impacted titles, attempt to use a broaderless setting if available. This option appears in display modes such as windowed, borderless, or fullscreen. When playing in fullscreen, it may occur since each toggle switches display control between the game and the window.
The frame rate remains steady and the video keeps being unstable.
