Press Win + D and then Alt + Tab to switch applications.
After switching to Windows 10, I've faced issues accessing the Desktop while playing games. Sometimes Alt + Tab helps switch between running programs, but other times it doesn't work at all. Pressing the Windows key alone doesn't open the Start Menu properly. The Win + D shortcut also fails most of the time. Occasionally, even pressing Alt + Tab or Win + D doesn't bring me to the Desktop. I can only reach it through Task Manager by opening it with Alt + Ctrl + Delete, but that doesn't resolve the problem. Recently, when games crash—especially in titles like Skyrim and Oblivion—I could still close them via Task Manager, though the screen would freeze. Now, even with crashes, I can't switch back to the game or see my mouse cursor. The PC shuts down completely, leaving me stuck. Is this issue specific to my PC or related to some settings I need to adjust?
Well I do play in Fullscreen for every games, I don't play Windowed / Borderless Windowed ever....if this is true...meaning there's no fix to it except if I play Windowed mode ?? Kinda stupid if it's true, I mean why this isn't an issue in Windows 7...It makes no sense.
It might occur based on the game. Is this actually an issue? You already know various ways to achieve your goal since you've tried them all. If a method fails, switch to another.
I didn't really think it was just annoying, and I'm pretty focused on these issues when my computer isn't running smoothly. But what about the part where my game crashed so badly? I couldn't even open Task Manager to try to stop it. Well, I managed to fix it by logging off and back in. What do you think is the cause here? Is it the game, my PC, or Windows? Have you had similar problems before? (This only happened with TES Oblivion and Skyrim so far!)
I had it a few times when the game "eats" consumes so many resources that showing the task manager became tough. It still functions, though you might not notice. I managed to use the keyboard and typed the initial letters of the executable name, then pressed alt+e to end the task. It works, but I think it's a poor approach. By the way, others have shared similar issues: https://hardforum.com/threads/killing-a-...r.1819949/ (just the first link I found)
How you do that ?? This is exactly what's happening to me. My PC is still responding, everything is working. But my mouse cursor isn't there there's no way to bring it out. So I cannot do anything.... What do you mean by " I used keyboard and type first letters of executable name and press alt+e " So let's say if it's SkyrimSE.exe. I just type Skyrim then I press Alt + E ? EDIT : SAD ! Look at one of the solutions...posted there.... On single monitor Windows 8 PC I do: Ctrl+Alt+Del Log off Log on Problem solved REALLY NOW ??? Wow, Good Job Windows 10, Thank You for making a better Windows.....and people said Windows 10 is more " user friendly " Some mentioned having Task Manager Options set to " Always on Top " I have " Minimize on Use " what does this do ??
Open the task manager now, for instance. When it appears, you can input keywords like "Water" since you're using Waterfox. You might also type "firef" or "opera." As you can observe, Waterfox (or your browser) is highlighted. The shortcut to close or kill is ALT+E. Regarding the "solved" issue—does it truly differ from standard methods across operating systems? I'm quite puzzled as no one suggests updating here.
I never logged out or signed in until Windows 10, lol... I skipped Windows 8 but 8 and 10 are basically the same...
