You're planning to run Ubuntu alongside Windows 10 on a single hard drive, possibly using partitions. You're also concerned about preserving your existing files and software in the Windows partition while ensuring a smooth installation process. Your goal is to keep all current applications and games intact during the transition. This approach can help you upgrade to Linux without losing what you have now.

You're able to run both Windows and Linux simultaneously. I maintain backups. I'll attempt to start with a virtual machine next.

Create a bootable USB or DVD using Ubuntu. The installer offers automatic or manual partition setup, making it easy to set up a dual operating system. Often I use Disk Management to design partitions first, then install the second OS directly onto that second section.

You can check if the partition will affect existing Windows or files, then consider creating a backup before proceeding.

Create a copy just in case. Updated Linux and Windows versions can still cause issues with files, so keeping a backup is always wise.

Just here to share some good vibes about Ubuntu! It works well for most tasks—definitely a plus when you're dual-booting.
