I’m changing to a Ryzen 7 2700X and the motherboard indicates it’s compatible with Ryzen 3000. There are mixed opinions online—some suggest downgrading the BIOS while others believe it should work fine. I’m worried about selling my R5 3400G before getting the R7 2700X and discovering it won’t fit. Do you have any advice on what to do? If you’re not sure, please let me know. Thanks for your help!
You don’t have to lower your bios; I’m not sure why others think that. The updates bring in new capabilities, like backing a newer generation, but they keep the existing one fully supported.
Bios updates don't eliminate compatibility with older CPUs, meaning your 2700x should function just fine without any modifications.
Only downgrade a BIOS if there is an specific issue you're having. Like if the 270)X is known to knly work with an older BIOS. In your case, you're fine. Most any BIOS that runs a 3xxx series will work for the 2xxx series no problem. Throw the 2700X on the board and enjoy. Make sure you have a dedicated gpu too tho, since the 2700X doesn't have onboard graphics.
