I own a high-end system yet still experience FPS drops and brief freezes across most titles I play on a 4K 120Hz Sony TV with VRR (Sony KD 55 inch XH9005). I run nearly every major new release such as Far Cry 6, AC Valhalla, Cyberpunk 2077, etc., in 4K resolution and achieve over 75 FPS for Cyberpunk and Valhalla without relying on ray tracing. Some titles reach 120+ FPS, while others remain stable. Except for Cyberpunk and Valhalla, I rarely see anything below smooth performance regardless of settings adjustments. Downgrading to 2K still causes similar issues, so I’m left wondering if this is typical behavior or if my setup is indeed problematic. I have updated drivers, installed Windows six months ago, BIOS refreshed six months prior, and everything seems fine except for occasional lag or FPS drops. My current hardware includes a Corsair RM850X 3080ti with Ventus Ryzen 5 3600 (possibly upgrading to 5600X), a fully unlocked dual-channel Hyper Tower cooler, an ASUS ROG STRIX B450F motherboard, NVME 1TB SSD, and I’m running Windows Gaming mode off. My GPU reaches 78°C under maximum load with near-constant usage in ultra 4K games, while my CPU stays around 65-70°C with about 40% utilization during most 4K titles.

The so called "freezes" and "fps drops" prompted my upgrade from 3600X to 3700X, then to 5600X, and finally to 5800X3D. Each stage showed clear gains until the 5800X3D eliminated them entirely. Also... These are extremely high temperatures for a non-X CPU.

The 3080 Ti GPUs lack the power for consistent 60 frames per second across every game at 4K resolution with maximum settings. This issue has been observed by many users. Switching to 2K resolves the problem.
