This may be irrelevant, but if the NVMe drive is the sole storage device and is handling both the operating system and video games, could thermal issues or performance limiting impact gameplay?
I own two 970 EVO Plus drives, and they still generate considerable heat even with added heatsinks. While they don’t trigger throttling, I employ passive heatsinks and enjoy excellent airflow within my computer case. Furthermore, I do not simultaneously operate Windows and games from the same drive. The component that reaches the highest temperature approaches the threshold where it would begin to throttle under heavy load. It's simply a consideration.
Could you share your CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming? [Please conduct several tests.]
