Power Up Issue(s)
Power Up Issue(s)
I'm checking out a HP Pavilion Gaming PC that's not working. When plugged in, nothing happened—no lights on the motherboard, no fans spinning.
Should there really be any difference?
It doesn’t power on through the power switch.
I replaced the PSU, and now the GPU fan is working, but the rest remains unchanged. Still, no LEDs on the board and no response when turning the power switch on.
Question 2 – There seems to be a faulty USB port. Could that be causing the issue?
I’ve unplugged and plugged in the PSU without success. I haven’t seen any brief startup activity from the PSU fan either, with both the old and new units.
This new PSU appears to have at least one improvement—its GPU fan is now working.
Question 3 – What steps should I take after installing a new PSU?
Thanks! Any advice would be really helpful!
After asking its owner a few questions, I now grasp that the power button initially stopped working but the PC still turned on. Over time, the button became unresponsive and inconsistent. The last time it was powered off, it didn’t come back on at all. The next day, when someone passed by it, it worked again. However, if it doesn’t turn on at all now, I’m unsure whether it’s just the power button or if there’s another way to handle it.
OK again... it seems the connection to the power button was probably just weak. Taking off the front panel made the connector come out easily, and once reconnected everything worked fine. Still open to discussing the previous comment about the new PSU affecting the GPU fan, but not the old one. Odd.
