Initially, after assembling and starting the system in mid-August, I never adjusted any overclocking parameters—only used the default 4.4GHz turbo provided by Intel.

A couple of nights ago, after having a few drinks, I attempted to apply the Z97 OC Formula overclocking settings. I opened the BIOS, selected the highest setting among the three (4.5, 4.6, and 4.7 GHz), chose 4.7, and booted up. Windows 10 Performance Monitor indicated a stable performance at around 4.64 GHz, with noticeable but not critical temperature increases.

Later, after drinking again, I tried overclocking without the EZ settings, pushing it to 5.0 GHz with a multiplier of 50 across all cores. I didn’t change any voltage values and assumed no unintended adjustments were made. Upon restarting, the system powered on briefly, then the power cut out again within seconds, followed by a short recovery period before shutting down once more. This sequence repeated several times before I disconnected the power supply.

After reinserting the power cable about an hour later, the issue persisted. I attempted to reset the motherboard, BIOS, and CMOS settings, but nothing resolved the problem. Eventually, after a few attempts and some troubleshooting, I powered it back on again—this time it worked.

I’m now puzzled about what went wrong. The machine handled temperatures well, which surprised me given my expectations. I’m unsure if any damage occurred during this testing session, especially since I achieved impressive thermal performance.

Could anyone provide guidance or clarification? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hey everyone? I remember writing this late last night, but I could still benefit from a fresh perspective. I’m curious if there’s any reason I didn’t encounter issues when boosting the processor to 4.7 GHz using the 'EZ Settings'—though I suspect it might be something like EZ Settings, Insta-OverClock, or OC Util, just pick one of the three profiles and it handles it automatically. There’s also a Nick Shih tool with many more advanced overclocking options, though they seem more complex and power-hungry, possibly beyond my current capabilities.

I’m wondering if I might have overlooked adjusting the voltage settings. When the multiplier is set to 50, the system won’t start and gets stuck in a boot failure loop because it requires even higher power to function at that speed.

Thanks for your time and any advice you can offer. This community has been incredibly valuable to me over the years—from buying laptops to tackling CPU questions back in 2009. It’s truly priceless, and I’m grateful for your support.

Did I go off on a tangent or write something unclear? I was quite taken aback by the lack of responses—this group is usually so supportive and prompt, but they seem to be responding with all sorts of reactions. It’s confusing.
