I’ve never encountered anything like this for an ATX spec system with a mini Molex connector on the PSU. It could be a case where the fan was damaged and I altered it, meaning the cable for the CPU fan should be connected to the motherboard’s fan power. It might also involve an unusual fan sensor, possibly with the case being a leftover from a previous build—then plugging it into the motherboard 12V could be risky. It could even relate to a board or component like a TXT. The age of the device might be crucial.

This situation has a quality assurance seal from late 2009. The seller assured me the machine had been tested before delivery, making sure it wouldn't just hand me a faulty product. I plan to experiment with the connectors soon and hope for a successful outcome.
2009 seems quite recent for this discussion. I don’t have the exact dates for the transaction. It might fit within a typical range. As a custom build, the motherboard model really matters. Detailed specifications would help. Perhaps someone familiar with that particular extra cable could assist. Usually you’d find a main board connector with 20 or 24 pins, some Molex and/or SATA cables, a CPU power cable, and video card power cables from 0 to 4. I’m not aware of any mini Molex coming from the PSU in ATX setups. There appears to be something unusual here.
