I was experiencing frequent freezes on my PC yesterday, sometimes reaching Task Manager which is unusual. Eventually it would completely stop powering. I had an RX3080 installed and tried using different GPUs, but the issue persisted. When I turned it on, the fans started up (not the GPU) indicating a power issue, though the 750w PSU has worked before. It seems any of the 6 or 8 pin connectors from the PSU could be used. I found a splitter with a broken wire yesterday, so I'll check if swapping it helps. The computer appears to be booting but not displaying anything. I suspect the power supply might be faulty, as the pins on my card seem bent after swapping. I'm worried about bending more pins and need advice on straightening them. Other cards I tested produced the same result. Any suggestions or alternatives would be appreciated.
Please share the complete specifications. Do you have any HDDs or older SSDs available?
Tried again this morning. My 3080s fans spin but doesn't output, rx480 lights up but no output. second rx480 the same. Specs Ryzen 5900X 32 GB (4x8) Corsair memory (3200mhz) All identical Gigabyte B550 gaming x motherboard GPU is/was Gigabyte RTX 3080 10 gig model 1 TB nvme 1TB regular SSD PSU EVGA 7500 watt Bronze cert. Has been absolutely fine and it just started freezing randomly yesterday. I've tried everything I can think of. If the board is playing up then I don't want to risk frying GPUs as my 3080 is the only one that spins on. I don't want to put it back in until I find the problem as its out of warranty now. Recently upgraded to Windows 11 but it all worked for a week so can't blame it. Have tried resetting the bios by removing the battery, but that doesn't work either!
Consider disabling the power supply and removing the CMOS battery for five minutes, then take out the SATA SSD. After that, attempt to boot it again. If it fails, switch to a different power supply or test the GPU on another machine.
Handled everything else except installing a new PSU. Can't believe all the GPUs would fail. I just sold my backup machine recently. It's frustrating.
I've resolved the issue with one of the 6+2 pin connectors from my PSU being a bit unstable. I replaced it with a 6 to 12 pin converter and the other cable worked fine. It's not fully stable yet, but my 3080 is holding up so far—thankfully. I'm planning to upgrade to a new 1000W PSU and skip the 4000-series cards since the 3080 should suffice for a few years. By then, the 5000 series will likely require a massive power source!
