Hi all,
I've been dealing with a GPU problem and initially thought my PS (Corsair RM1000x) was faulty. I tried swapping ATX power to one PS and the CPU to another, but the PC still wouldn't boot. I'm curious why it detects it's not connected to the same PS. Also, the fans won't turn on when the cable is plugged into a different PS. My main concern is the GPU (ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super) failing to power up even with power connected. I've checked everything I could find online and bought another GPU (MSI 4070 Ti Super), but it still doesn't work. I'm leaning toward checking the motherboard next. More details are in my other thread; otherwise, the PC runs fine.

Fan on PS, GPU or whole computer?
If only the GPU is being driven by the PS, you must first jump-start the PSU.
This process can be carried out with a paperclip [guide] and is quite straightforward. After completion, you can power the GPU separately using its own PS.

this forum is mostly about MSI boards, isn't it? are you connecting the adapter cable properly? the pin cable looks bad. there are two 8-pin headers to a 16-pin one. how many PCI cables are coming from the PSU? if the adapter has three 8-pin connectors for a 16-pin, you need three PCI cables. but if the adapter only has two 8-pin connectors, you should use two PCI cables instead. another option is this link: https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/p/pc-...5-...cp-8920284

I connected the second PS using the second PS and it functioned properly. I connected the GPU via the jumper cable, but the GPU stops the PS from booting. I notice a similar quiet click when the GPU is plugged into the first PS. The PC still boots normally as all other cables are in the other PS. That’s the cable type it comes with. I’m running two 8-pin connections to the PS. I ordered a new motherboard. I can’t find anything else to check. I’ve also tried an ASUS 4070ti Super and an MSI 4070ti Super, but the issue persists.

It might be crazy, but based on what I've seen, it seems like the board probably is. From my experience, I once had an MSI board do this to me—refusing to work with a PSU, even though it was actually running in my cousin's setup for three years and all the rails passed testing.

I purchased another MB (MSI Pro Z790-A WIFI) and achieved the same outcome.

get an asus board, asrock or gigabyte, avoid msi a lot—most of their boards are not good quality.
