Power is being supplied to the motherboard, yet it fails to start up.
Hi everyone, I just finished assembling my daughter's first computer for Christmas. It’s been running smoothly since then, which was the best build experience I’ve ever had. But today something went wrong. She left the PC on and went to school this morning; it shut down completely and we can’t turn it back on. I’ve checked all the connections, tried jump-starting it, and nothing happened when I pressed the power button or attempted a jump start. The logo in the top-right corner is glowing in RGB, so it seems it’s getting power. None of the diagnostic lights are illuminating. It went from working perfectly to this, so I’m really unsure what’s causing the problem. Most troubleshooting guides I’ve looked at mention dead components or damage, but nothing has changed. All other issues I’ve found seem to be related to faulty parts, yet nothing seems different now. The specs look solid—Asus TUF Gaming B660m-plus WiFi D4 Intel i5 12400F, Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1070, Corsair Vengeance LPX, etc.—but I’m not seeing any signs of failure. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Contacted Asus tech support this morning regarding the motherboard. They reviewed the troubleshooting steps you took and recommended checking the board itself, suggesting you order a replacement from Amazon. I’ll post an update once the situation is resolved.
Recent changes: new motherboard arrived, connections were made again but nothing worked. Even though the motherboard lights up when powered on, I suspect the PSU is the issue—maybe it only supplies enough power for the board's indicator, not the rest of the system. Without the CPU, fans and extra LEDs would still illuminate if they received power.
Backup and functioning smoothly now. The new power supply arrived and everything operates perfectly once again. I’ve been trying to track down a solution for years, but no thread seems to exist. It looks like the motherboard LED lights can stay on even if the power supply fails to power the rest of the system.
