power failure, computer fails to start without restarting
I returned to find my computer off and the clocks had reset. I thought the power had dropped. Since I often leave my PC on, I turned it back on, but it didn’t start properly afterward. All fans were spinning and the CPU light was lit on the motherboard. After a minute, nothing changed and the screen remained blank. I decided to switch off and then back on the PSU, and it worked fine. I restarted the PC and tried turning it off and on again, but it didn’t happen. I’ve never had power outages before, so this seems unusual. Am I worried it might mean something is wrong? Is this typical behavior? Or could there be damage? The PSU model is a Corsair RM850x.
If the situation doesn't repeat, it's likely safe to proceed. A UPS can offer some reassurance during future blackouts, though it comes at a cost. You'll need to weigh the potential risks against the expense of the device. For safeguarding your PC, the PSU generally handles power interruptions and surges well. Don't stress too much. Enjoy your day!
