I'm facing a strange problem with my Samsung 980 Pro NVMe storage. While playing Diablo IV in the middle of a session, the power went out at home. After it restored, everything looked fine until I tried to log into Battlenet and Steam. Both platforms refused to launch Diablo IV and kept insisting I update the game, but error messages appeared each time I clicked the update button. On Steam, the same trouble occurred. All my games are installed on the 980 Pro, while Windows and other programs run on separate drives. I attempted to manually delete the game files in my Battlenet folders to reinstall it, but the system blocked both deletions and new folder creation. I opened Disk Management expecting to reformat the drive, but none of the standard options worked. In Disk Management, the drive displayed as "Read Only" – labeled as Disk 4. I searched online for ways to convert a read-only drive to writable, found a guide using Windows Diskpart from the command line, and followed it. Still, the disk attributes remained unchanged. I tried applying commands to change its state, but nothing worked. I’m hoping someone else has solutions or insights to resolve this issue. The rest of my computer functions normally, and other drives aren’t affected. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

Have you attempted to run a CHKDSK? I believe Windows will mark a drive as read-only when issues exist to prevent further complications.

I used to be able to pick the drive in File Explorer. It seemed to indicate several problems, but it didn’t fix them. After running the clean command with Diskpart on the drive, it doesn’t appear I can run CHKDSK again.

It seems a fresh disk cleanup was performed, wiping all partitions. The files likely remain, but the drive lacks information for the operating system. Your main option is using partition recovery tools such as DiskGenius, though this carries potential risks.

This is one of the reasons I rely on a UPS.

Checked that your SSD was running the most recent firmware.

I only have my games set up on this disk, nothing critical. The files aren’t a concern for me; I’d like to restore normal operation of the drive. Yes, I’m aware it deleted the partitions.

I wasn't informed about the necessity of firmware updates. I'll download them to check their functionality. The article suggests I may need to reach out for assistance. Thank you for the link!

The drive seems to be non-functional. Firmware updates cannot proceed.

Yeah, I think once it is in R/O mode it's too late.
