I saw an update in Windows Update KB2933809 and checked the applications/devices section. "Immersive Office Apps" was marked as unavailable with the change noted as "Improves the user experience." Microsoft already labels Modern UI apps as "Immersive" when they have desktop versions, like Internet Explorer. It's clear they're developing a Modern UI for Office and might release it soon.

That's great! I'm keen to dive deeper into the update. Plus, I'm really looking forward to understanding how Office will look with the new Modern UI.

I wasn't particularly enthusiastic when I first learned about Office in Modern UI, but after trying their Modern UI version of OneNote on my Surface RT I was quite satisfied. It seems they had to simplify the features to work well on touchscreens, yet their iPad Office apps look solid. I believe the Modern UI Office tools will be even more powerful than the iPad ones because they’re built on Microsoft’s platform. I’m hoping all features are fully available for Office 365 users and it’s not just a one-time purchase, since I’m already subscribed.

It seems like you're saying that if the Office for iPad version performs well, then the modern UI for Office should really stand up to touchscreens.

Oh no, please stop right there! That's not how I want this to go.

Microsoft has confirmed they have no intention of stopping or stopping the evolution of the classic desktop Office suite. Instead, they are broadening its availability across various platforms and interfaces, offering users more choices. Currently, Office operates on traditional desktops, web applications such as Google Docs, tablets like iPad and iPhone, Android devices, and even Windows Phone. The next step will focus on modern user interfaces as an additional choice.

I don't mind the metro, it's a plus for me.
