Hello! TLDR at the lower third. My 2020 Asus Vivobook had a long past, ending with an exploded IC on the IO board—but it’s now back, not plugged in. After checking, I confirmed it wasn’t a random issue (the mainboard was fine). I tried installing Linux, placing the board open-air with a heatsink for cooling. After bumping it, it whistles and won’t power on. The noise seems from one of the parts, likely a capacitor that might need replacing. I’m hoping someone with more experience can help identify the problem so I can replace it. It’s not critical, but it would be great to get it working again and complete another repair project. TLDR: board possibly shorted in 2020 Asus Vivobook. Whistling now, no power, capacitor suspected.

Inductors are often used to produce certain loud sounds, especially when paired with a circular shape.

I'd prefer to think it's the inductor instead of the capacitor.

I used the multimeter on both components, and the cap showed the correct 20V reading. When checking resistance on the inductor, it fluctuated between 1 and 3 ohms before dropping to zero, which seems concerning.
