Hey everyone,

I just bought a new PC with an AMD CPU and a Nvidia 3070 GPU. After connecting my monitor, everything worked fine. When I started a game, it became extremely slow. I double-checked all settings but accidentally connected the HDMI cable to the motherboard instead of the 3070's port. After switching it to the correct slot, the screen went black again. Once I turned it off and back on, nothing remained black, so I reinserted the cable into the motherboard and it functioned properly.

I tried AMD’s software and Nvidia’s control panel, but couldn’t find an option to switch from AMD integrated graphics to the 3070. I opened Device Manager, disabled the AMD display integrated graphics, and then reinserted the HDMI cable into the 3070 slot – it worked. The game ran smoothly once that was fixed.

After restarting the PC, I could play games without issues, but I can’t shut it down or restart it unless I physically press the off button on the case. That’s not ideal. To fix this, I switched the HDMI back to the motherboard so I can normally power off/restart the system, though I still can’t enjoy gaming.

I updated my Windows and Nvidia drivers via their apps, and Device Manager now recognizes both AMD integrated graphics and the 3070. Still unsure what I’m doing wrong.

Any suggestions?

Specs:
- CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 7600 6-CORE/12-THREAD 3.8GHZ

Windows 11 with Nvidia 3070 GPU
AMD RYZEN 5 7600 6-CORE/12-THREAD 3.8GHZ
For troubleshooting threads, provide complete system details. Include specs in this format:
CPU: CPU cooler: Motherboard: RAM: SSD/HDD: GPU: PSU: Chassis: OS: Monitor:
Add PSU age and current BIOS version for the motherboard. Consider disabling iGPU in BIOS, then remove all GPU drivers via DDU in Safe Mode, and install the latest driver from Nvidia support using an elevated command.

Consider using Dism and System File Checker to potentially fix damaged operating system files.

The phrase describes how the shutdown option functions within the Windows operating system. Clicking "shutdown" in the start menu initiates a shutdown process. Right-clicking the start menu and selecting restart performs the same action, allowing the system to power down.

It wouldn't do anything, so I'd just click to shut down or restart. Sleeping works instead. Right-clicking the Windows start menu also doesn't help. Only when I disconnect the HDMI from the 3070 and reconnect it back to the motherboard does it restart normally. But then I can't use the 3070 because the HDMI is still connected to the motherboard.

When you click the shutdown button in Windows, does it generate any warnings or error alerts in the Event Viewer? It might be related to the Nvidia driver affecting power states (the Event Viewer should indicate this). Also, if you installed the AMD chipset driver, it could have also installed the Radeon driver for your integrated graphics if you didn’t check it during installation and that might lead to problems. DDU is the first thing you should consider trying, as suggested by Lutfij.

No alerts, I'll also check the Event Viewer upon returning. I haven't installed the chipset driver yet, I'll handle that too.
