Possible IHC thermal paste malfunction in I7 6700k device
Curious if others with a 6700k have experienced overheating from worn IHC thermal paste. My 3-year-old i7 6700k is running hot. It's liquid cooled with a Nivdia 1080, featuring a 360mm radiator and an additional 240mm radiator. I performed a stress test for 30 minutes on Xtu, averaging around 71°C at stock speed with the GPU at 37°C. I also tried a 4.7Ghz overclock at 1.45V for three years. At its original temperature, it stayed in the mid to high 80s and occasionally throttled briefly. Recently, after replacing waterblocks, pumps, and cleaning the loop, everything seems normal. I applied plenty of thermal paste to the CPU, but I'm still unsure what else might be causing the issue.
Intel toothpaste isn't great. After rewinding my 8700k, I'm glad I did. With that custom loop and big radiators, I'd think stock temperatures would be much higher than 71°C. That's a real win!
