Possible for Windows 7 on 9th generation CPUs depending on model and specifications.
I've been using this setup for several years and decided to assemble my initial rig for light gaming and productivity (mainly games). CPU: Core i5-9600k MOBO: Asus ROG Strix Z390-e GPU: GTX 1070 RAM: Dominator Platinum 2x8gb PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750 OS Drive: Crucial P2 250gb m.2 Storage/games: WD Black sn750 1Tb Cooler: H100i pro xt (any other details needed?) I'm curious if it's feasible to run Windows 7 x64 on a 9th generation processor? (I intend to have Windows 10 elsewhere but prefer a more recent version.) I own a Win 7 USB boot drive that I previously installed on my NUC, which I upgraded with USB 3 drivers. When the installation window appears and asks for language settings, mouse and keyboard input is missing. I've tried switching USB ports and unplugging/plugging it back in without success. Would a PS/2 mouse help (would I need to purchase one)? I'm currently using a wired Corsair M65 until I can set up my Dark Core wireless. Or am I fine with installing Windows 7 on this chipset/CPU combination? I look forward to more questions about my rig and appreciate being part of this community. Thanks for your assistance! Andrew
You might face issues with the unmodified USB installer. However, you can use an existing Win7 installation (in rare BSOD situations - Paragon Adaptive Restore helps) and then tweak everything via the PS2 keyboard/mouse. This advice has been discussed many times, so it should be clear from this forum.
Thanks for the feedback. I attempted some searches but found limited results, possibly due to using different keywords. It might be worth experimenting with alternative terms. I plan to install Windows 10 this evening.
I attempted but couldn't move past the language selection screen. I tried various BIOS settings, but nothing worked. I'm not very skilled with technical details, so I switched to Windows 10. The setup will be slow because of my poor internet connection. Thanks for your help!
I'm referring to your earlier Windows 7 setup. Don't worry about the installer. You're aiming for a smooth transition to Windows 10.
Sure, I get it. I might give it a shot on my next project when I have extra time to work through issues. Thanks!
Windows 10 does not support modern hardware. I attempted installation on my machine as well, but it failed. If you think it could work with Intel 9th generation, using a Ventoy disk to install more ISO files on your USB drive for Windows 7 and 10, and converting the hard drive to MBR without GPT, worked on GPT but not on others.
