You purchased an ASROCK X570 Taichi and thought it would work with an 8-pin EPS adapter, not the 8 and 4. This setup is correct for your board. There are other adapters available that are safe to use.

The 8-pin connector should handle around 230W, which is the strongest CPU this board supports—rated at 105W. You should be okay. However, using Ryzen OC might not yield much benefit.

The 8-pin EPS connector is designed for high current handling—up to 360W in a folded configuration, far exceeding the capabilities of even the 3950X or top cooling solutions. It’s sufficient, but using more connectors works better if you have additional EPS cables.

It offers significantly more capacity. An 8-pin EPS includes 4 +12V and 4 ground connections. A 18AWG cable can deliver over 100W across 10 feet, far exceeding typical PC requirements. https://www.securitypower.com/Other/securitypowerCOM/04 - Application Notes - Tools/AN-2-12_Application_Note.pdf 100W per 12V equals 400W, which is ample. An 8-pin EPS functions similarly to a 2x4 ATX, making sense that a 4-pin delivers 155W while an 8-pin provides 230. 155 multiplied by 2 equals 310

Classic Molex mini-fit Jr. connectors support up to 9A per pin, which would be 430 watts, but the close spacing of four pairs makes the 336-watt limit more cautious. A stronger-pin version exists that handles higher loads, though it's still safe to assume the 8-pin connector can manage around 350 watts. For Ryzen chips, using a 3900x or higher will keep consumption under 200 watts, unless you opt for overclocking. Even the 3950x stays under 200 watts without extra tweaking. If your PSU includes an additional 4-pin, you're welcome to use it; otherwise, it's safe to skip it.

It may provide sufficient power, but will it start properly and support minor overclocking? You can look for a secure adapter that fits a 4-pin EPS connector.

It's secure to push beyond normal speeds. Avoid using extra adapters. Stick with the 8-pin connector. Could you share the processor model?

They are connected in parallel and don't have voltage sense pins so the board has no way of knowing whether there are enough connectors, just know that there is at least one EPS connector. 2. Around 125-130 watts is typical. Overclocking won’t bring it near 200 watts. The EPS connector supports more than 300 watts. You’re good.
