Ports on the rear USB are not functioning on the Legion 5.
Hello everyone, I have a query about my newly purchased Legion 5. It's been three days since I got it, and I've connected an M.2 drive to my laptop. Everything seems fine so far. Last night I tried it for the first time with gaming, and everything functioned properly. Now, all the rear USB ports aren't transferring data anymore. Windows doesn't show any USB devices, and my phone just charges without any indication of data transfer. All M drivers are up to date; I've reinstalled the USB drivers and checked every power management setting. Any other advice would be appreciated? Thanks!
I’m sorry for bringing up an old discussion, but I recently encountered a similar problem with my 2022 Legion 5 Pro. I thought sharing this might assist others. In my situation, all the rear USB A ports stopped functioning one day after turning on the laptop, and nothing seemed to work despite various fixes (reinstalling drivers, updating BIOS, reinstalling Windows, etc.). The only solution that worked was turning off the laptop for about 8-10 hours. The ports still felt unstable during high-speed data transfers—sometimes a drive would recognize USB 3.0 while other times it wouldn’t—but they still detected devices. Reading up on USB standards suggested these ports have resettable polyfuses to guard against overcurrent. Once tripped, they might need up to 24 hours to reset. My guess is that having an external drive and a KVM switch connected at startup could have triggered the fuse in my case. What seems odd is that it impacted all rear USB A ports, even though each port usually has its own fuse. TL;DR: If you’re dealing with this issue, try leaving the laptop off for 8-10 hours to see if it improves things. Edit: Further research shows the Ryzen version uses a built-in USB hub chip (Genesys GL3523) for rear ports, while the other port connects directly to the APU. When the ports failed, devices labeled “Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub” and “Generic USB Hub” disappeared from Device Manager, hinting the Genesys chip might not have been detected—possibly pointing to a shared fuse before the hub chip.
