Hey everyone, I'm wondering if plugging my Ethernet cable into the #1 port of the modem/router actually boosts the speed or if the router just distributes the bandwidth with each connection. I'm planning an upgrade to increase internet speed, but my roommates won't be able to cover the costs. Thanks!

They must all run at identical speeds to achieve the desired QoS. This ensures you can prioritize your connection and set the optimal bandwidth for each link.

It doesn't matter much. However, if you need to control your roommates' speed, look for a router with a priority connection feature.
