Hi everyone, I'm preparing a build without a hard drive and need to install Windows from a USB stick. I'm wondering if partitioning my external HDD would wipe everything on it, and whether I can still use it afterward after removing the partition. Should I go with an 8GB USB instead? Thanks for your advice, Wayne.

The drive will be formatted when you split it. Obtain a spare flash drive.

Data loss is possible, especially if you transfer files to an external drive. It seems some sources suggest you can recover data as long as the file format remains unchanged. You might want to look into this further—here’s a guide if you’d like more details.
