You don’t necessarily require a null modem converter to switch from Ethernet to serial. It’s been some time, and I’m not entirely sure about the details.
It won’t show anything. The serial port is a basic interface that works only when you actually interact with it. If it wasn’t present before, it isn’t turned on in the BIOS.
