Hello everyone, I’m putting together a budget PC because I needed another one. It’s not much, but I’m facing some big issues with it. The setup includes: Gigabyte B36M DS3H MMO board (latest BIOS), Intel i5 9400 16GB single-channel 2666MHz RAM, RX 570 8GB 500W power supply, and another Gigabyte B36M DS3H MMO board. My main problem is that games don’t run smoothly—they lag more than on my Steam Deck. I usually get 20-40 frames depending on the game. All benchmarks worked as expected before. Recently, when I played Apex Legends for about 40 minutes, I got a max of 40 FPS, then it jumped to 120+. Could something be causing this performance drop? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You're aiming for a dual-channel setup, though it's not the only concern. Delayed RAM can hinder CPU performance, which might restrict GPU capabilities. The resolution and game settings you're using also play a role. Could you test Intel PresentMon during gameplay and provide a screenshot?

This typically indicates CPU limitations, likely due to single-channel memory. Is there a method to track CPU temperatures? Running at just 2.9 GHz at full capacity doesn’t seem reasonable.

Sorry to hear that, the adrenaline only works on basic clocks. It performs at maximum speed (3.9) and can reach up to 65°C. Using a dual channel setup seems essential.

Additionally, the simple 6-core i5 models quickly lost relevance since major titles began demanding at least eight cores, with peak performance relying on this setup. Reduce it down and it won’t function smoothly.

Hello, just a quick note. I moved to dual-channel memory but it didn’t improve anything. The stats from the in-game presence monitor show it’s affecting my FPS.

Check if your system runs Windows 10 or 11 and see if it has CPU sensors enabled.

You're on Windows 11 and the Intel app isn't capturing data, but your game runs at 100 FPS. It's confusing how everything works together.
