Hello everyone! I just got a refurbished BenQ EL2870U and am testing it with my APU ITX setup running a Ryzen 5700G. Everything works fine in games, but when I watch videos or view my desktop, I notice a lot of blockiness in the blacks and the color shifts seem off. I’m not sure if it’s the monitor or the HDR settings—my calibration profile was set to auto and didn’t help. I even switched to a smart TV app for streaming Amazon Prime while watching Alien (1979) with my kids, and the blacks looked awful. I’ve attached some screenshots. I tried adjusting my color profiles, but nothing seems to fix the issue. Could someone help me out?

Usually fine, most screens advertising HDR fail to show it properly and appear poor quality.

That actually makes sense. The main thing that confuses me is the setup—using a TV with HDMI instead of my displayport monitor—and it still displayed HDR problems. The TV relies on HDR, which I experienced when I played HDR movies from Amazon Prime Video using an app. It’s just odd.

I managed to snag a Sapphire Pulse RX 6600 for around $230 today. While it isn't the top model available, it performs better than the APU setup I currently own. Hopefully, this could ease my blocky problems—though I'm not sure if it'll make a big difference.

It handles without HDR by using standard settings, so you won’t need 8K on a 4K screen.

The film from 1979 isn't even in HD quality; the remake is typically at most 1920x1080, often lower, since the original was in a 4:3 format rather than the modern 16:9. What you're seeing is just typical, until a 4K version becomes available.

It seems the same movie played well on your monitor with the Roku app, but you're unsure if HDR is being used. You might want to verify that setting.
