Poor performance with Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 3060 Ti
PC specifications include a Ryzen 5 5600x, Palit RTX 3060 TI B550, Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard, Corsair CV650 PSU, G.Skill Ripjaws V, 16GB RAM, and 500GB storage. The issue is poor performance, noticeable jittering, and extremely low frame rates. Attempts to resolve it involved updating drivers, reinstalling games, performing a clean boot, and adjusting Nvidia settings, but results remain unsatisfactory.
HI. Consider looking for BIOS updates for your motherboard. Besides that, check for any odd processes consuming high CPU power and attempt to prevent them from starting at boot. How are your temps? Use Hardware Monitor via CPUID (or the creators of CPUID) to monitor them.
Ryzen doesn't perform well with slow RAM, which likely contributes to what you're experiencing. It seems this isn't just about one stick—probably more than one. Consider running benchmarks such as Cinebench for the CPU and another for the GPU to see where the issues lie. Share the sensor tab readings from hwinfo while gaming so we can review them.
RAM settings at 2666 instead of the recommended numbers slow down performance significantly. An old BIOS version and outdated chipset drivers could also be contributing factors. Make sure your SSD firmware is current and your Windows is up to date. What display resolution are you using?
It lacks specific details about the gameplay, titles played, quality settings, or technical specs.
Unless you give more details about the games, settings, temperatures, etc., we can't assist right away. The main concern here seems to be the slower RAM speed and the 16GB capacity, which isn’t much compared to other applications running at the same time, especially with a newer AAA game open.
I share the others' thoughts—I didn’t see the RAM speed. When you mention your PC is slower than others, do you count RAM in that comparison? Most AMD users have quicker RAM, I’d say. And yes—you can run a game at 4K on a 3060 and get decent frame rates, but expect big dips. If you’re using tools like 3DMark to check performance, background heavy processes might be the issue. Just make sure you’re not running many tabs in Chrome while gaming.
While playing Helldivers 2 I achieved around 25 frames per second across all low resolutions at 1440x1080p, GTA5 with medium settings reached 1920x1080p at 40 fps, and Watch Dogs Legion showed 38 fps in medium-low settings. I didn’t turn on any graphics acceleration features.
while running demanding titles, my GPU reaches temperatures near 80°C. I mainly use games like Helldivers 2, GTA V, Watch Dogs Legion and Battlefield 2042 with medium to low settings, and I haven't turned on RTX.
