Poor performance following the Nvidia driver update and system restart
I'm facing a strange problem I don't understand how to resolve. I updated my GPU drivers yesterday and today all games are running poorly. Before the update everything worked fine—games launched without issues when installing drivers, not needing a system reboot. After rebooting, even with full GPU usage, performance drops to around 10 FPS in Frostpunk 2 instead of the usual 60. Using DDU didn't help. I've tried different drivers and software versions, but nothing changed. The temperatures on both CPU and GPU are normal. My PC specs: Windows 10 x64 22H2, RTX 3080 FE, 32 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, Gigabyte X570S, AORUS PRO AX BIOS, Corsair RM850i PSU.
Did you review the event viewer for any alerts or warnings? Checked the Device Manager for notifications? Tested disabling Msi Afterburner and other background applications that could cause problems.
Device manager appears normal, yet Volume Shadow Copies generated numerous errors. I chose to disable it and also turned off Windows Defender, then reinstalled the driver and restarted the PC. Performance has returned to normal after reboots. I plan to test again later, comparing with Defender enabled versus disabled. Edit: I reinstalled various driver versions multiple times, both with and without a clean install, but the issue still doesn’t occur.
