I just finished building a new pc for my son yesterday but it doesn’t seem to play games the way I thought the system was going to be capable of. It’s an I7-12700k, MSI 4060 OC, Asrock B760 Pro TS WIFI with 1x34Gb 6000mhz Ram(Still waiting for the other stick in the mail). The first game he wanted to download was Fortnite so the game automatically preset the graphics but I changed the fps cap to unlimited. It only gets around 50-60fps with bad frame drops of down around 20fps and bad stutters/tearing. This is all while waiting for his new monitor and playing on a 27” 720p Tv. Can anyone give me any ideas please? My son is heart broken.

Did you connect the HDMI port to the GPU instead of the IGPU on the motherboard? That could be one of the causes for your low FPS. Also, using dual-channel RAM would help. Besides that, it’s about finding the right settings.

The HDMI connection goes straight to the GPU, but performance remains poor even at reduced settings.

I don’t have access to real-time system details like monitor resolution or CPU cooler temperature. Please check your device settings or system information for that data.

It's a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120, functioning as a 720p display at 60Hz.

The 60 Hz TV might be triggering VSYNC, which limits the frame rate to 60 FPS. Be aware that a device with these settings could experience tearing since it lacks Freesync or Gsync support for smoothing. This problem was common several years back; today’s monitors usually include Freesync by default and are G-Sync compatible. You may need to adjust the settings in the NVIDIA control panel and disable V-Sync there. Otherwise, your setup is correct as long as you placed it properly.

I plan to test the 1080 or 4K settings tomorrow before deciding whether to bring it for diagnosis. Will the TV generate in-game frames to lower the resolution?

It might involve several factors such as the TV or dual-channel settings. I’d wait until the second RAM stick is ready for full dual-channel operation to check for further problems. If VSync remains active, it could be affecting performance.
