Poor gameplay in Hitman 2016
i7 6700K with 16GB of 3200MHz DDR4 memory and an overclocked GTX 970 still struggles significantly, even during the tutorial. It’s hard to find a clear reason for such poor performance on Nvidia cards. The 40 frames per second in the tutorial mission seems unrealistic. Edit: The suggested specs are: OS – 64-bit Windows 7/8.1 or Windows 10; CPU – Intel Core i7 3770 at 3.4 GHz or AMD FX-8350 at 4 GHz; RAM – 8GB; Graphics – GeForce GTX 770 or Radeon R9 290; DirectX 11; Storage – 50GB free space. The functionality you're asking about isn't directly related to DX12. Async is a framework for asynchronous operations, while DX12 is a graphics API. They serve different purposes in the game development ecosystem.
I believe the game might be backed by AMD, which could explain some of the performance issues. Optimization for Nvidia might be lacking while AMD's settings are better. Since it's a visually intensive title, a GTX 970 is likely insufficient even at full settings.
The performance gap between medium and ultra settings is minimal.
The 970 can handle Crysis 2 up to its limit, though not every title performs well at that setting. With more games released and better graphics, the 970 will likely become outdated over time.
