Hi, I recently bought MGSV (I know I’m late) and I’m having a very hard time playing it on my GTX 1070 and i5 8600k. Basically, no matter how much I play with the graphical settings, the game keeps having sharp drops to the 30s and 40s in fps, and it makes the game unplayable especially when riding the horse. I made sure all my drivers are up to date and I used Afterburner to monitor the game and these are the results. It’s also important to note that this is the only game in which I’m having this problem.

Yes, I attempted that and initially it unexpectedly set my resolution to 4K despite having a 1080p monitor. Strangely, at 4K, the GPU reached 98% utilization. Switching back to 1080p (both in-game and within GeForce Experience) resulted in the reduced usage returning.

It is inadvisable. GeForce Experience frequently degrades frame rates by upscaling to 2K or 4K resolutions, which negatively impacts performance. Uninstalling Experience and configuring GPU settings manually, either within the game or via global settings, is recommended.

To the original poster, if you are overclocking, either the CPU or GPU, remove the overclock and run at stock speeds to test again. Also, try uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Where did you download the game? Is it a cracked game or purchased retail/online through Steam/Origin or similar? It is recommended to perform a clean install of your graphics card drivers using DDU followed by reinstallation with the clean installation option in the custom menu of the NVIDIA installer. Ensure that your system drivers and BIOS are up to date as well, to rule out software issues.

If this comment typically indicates a CPU bottleneck, what is your CPU utilization during gameplay?

Approximately fifty percent. It’s peculiar because I play games that demand significantly greater CPU resources and they perform adequately (such as HOI4 and COH2).
