That's not true, unless something is bottlenecking the network (for example if router is being overloaded with large amounts of traffic that it can not handle), then it takes longer for the packet to reach from point A to point B. Otherwise, bandwidth does not affect latency.
SpeedTest checks your ISP server, which is likely much nearer than the nearest Fortnite server, resulting in a quicker connection. Anyway, 300ms or more is too slow. Where are you located? Are you connecting with players from different countries? I’m not sure if there’s a way to choose your region inside the game—if it exists, set it to your actual location.
I reside in India, especially on the western side, and I’m experiencing more than 300 ping during solos and other game modes. My ping is set to auto and often shows Asia as the region. Recently in Playgrounds, my ping spiked to 1000 ms before settling around 700 ms. If there’s anything I can do to resolve this, please let me know—I’ve been struggling to play properly for a while and it really affects my experience when others have low ping (25-50 ms).
It doesn't affect your connection directly. The problem lies with Epic's server distribution being spread too far apart. You might need to wait for another server closer to you, perhaps in India. I found a list during my search that shows possible new locations, including Mumbai, which could help reduce your high ping issues.
In my country, every server SpeedTest checks is managed by an ISP or its branches. This list shows the ISPs involved: https://www.speedtestserver.com/
It might be possible. I link to another ISP server using this connection. Most connections before this were to cloud storage providers, but it's not always your own ISP.
