I’m checking available options for CPU upgrades in my region. I’m unsure about international prices, which makes it tricky to judge value. Comparing parts like the i7-3770K, Ryzen 7 5900X, and Ryzen 9 models helps me decide what fits best. My priority is smooth performance—no lag during long tasks like PDFs, Excel, or Photoshop, and smooth gameplay. I’m flexible on cost but want to avoid overspending if the upgrade offers little extra benefit compared to cheaper alternatives. I rely heavily on my PC for work involving maps, satellite data, large spreadsheets, and virtual environments, using multiple monitors and high-resolution displays.
Suggest upgrading to a B550 board with RAM and a more affordable CPU right away. A Ryzen 3 3100 could be sold for 50-60% of its worth in 3-6 months, allowing you to purchase a better CPU later when inventory improves. You'd incur a loss of 50-60€ during resale but save 200-300€ by avoiding reseller purchases. Edit: Consider a lower-end CPU now and revisit reselling once supply becomes more consistent.
If your tasks rely on threading, I'd choose the 3950X instead of the 5800X... Not that I'd pay 734€ for a 3950X. If you don't require extra threads, I'd still opt for an older, more affordable chip—performance doesn't justify the cost. My take: For extra threads → 3950X; without them → 3100 with room for upgrading to 5800X. It also hinges on how much value these chips provide. If you're serious about maximizing every bit of performance and earning more, go for a 5950X. Right now, the price doesn't match the performance.
The 10900K stands out as the most affordable option, readily found in retail outlets and performing benchmark results comparable to other models.
The Ryzen 3 3100 in my region is nearly $200. Check it out on @Newegg: AMD Ryzen 3 3100 Quad-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM4 65W 100-100000284BOX Desktop Processor https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-3-3100-..._-12032020 Prices are so high because supply is tight, making everything overpriced even for older models.
At these rates and excluding the aggressive buyers, you could secure what you need right away with what you already possess. If not, a system priced around 10,700k to 10,900k will be available until the market stabilizes or something significantly better emerges. You can always repurpose it later or switch its use once you upgrade to future models. Because those high-speed shoppers are just annoying.
