I enjoy playing Rocket League and sometimes hope the game gains more popularity on Twitch. It usually has 1,000 to 5,000 viewers when there are no esports events. The game remains very active with over 100K people online at any time, but I was curious about its mainstream status. I won't use this data for anything, just wanted to check the poll results.

they're checking if anyone has heard of rocket league, regardless of their opinion or whether they play it.

Realised that after submitting the topic, but my main worry is Twitch viewership rather than the game's player base.

The game has a fairly standard player base in the competitive ladder, especially at lower levels. It can be toxic and willing to end matches if the opponent scores two goals. Sometimes even after just the first goal. I’d like to play more, but that kind of attitude isn’t something I’m comfortable with.
Watching... I saw the last finals because a Finnish player was involved. That’s usually my reason for watching esports right now.

I've heard about it, listened to it, then moved on.

I enjoy playing regularly. I don’t feel I’m the best, but it’s enjoyable and competitive. The community can be harsh (and I’ve admitted to being part of the issue at times) and sometimes I wonder about the ranking and matchmaking system, but I appreciate being able to sit down for ten minutes, play a match, and then return to other activities or keep playing for hours without interruption.

Its really weird for me, I don't enjoy watching sports at all, even being from a State where football is everything... and I don't like eSports either, EXCEPT Rocket League... I watch it every chance I get, and get excited about it.
Its always baffled me as well how low the viewership on Twitch is, even for the tournaments. I think this year will be better with the Dreamhack Circuit being semi-regular so you can plan for it, and having it all announced for the whole year already. I mean RLCS should be starting in a few months (if it stays similar to previous years) and there still is absolutely no info on it yet. WSOE4 popped up out of nowhere, best I can tell there was about a week notice for the qualifiers, and the final is in two weeks. Its hard to watch something when you don't even know about it.
If Pysonix was smart they would have their eSports page show all major tournaments, not just RLCS/RLRS. Trying to navigate the Reddit thread is near impossible, especially now when its just rumor threads about roster moves.

Yeah this year there are a lot of major tournaments lining up. Pretty hyped about it too.
Agreed.

I've witnessed two finals, but I wasn't really excited about them. I find it more engaging to watch from a single player's point of view. Streaming tournaments is enjoyable for observing rotations and similar things, though it doesn't feel very thrilling. Playing itself is fun, as long as you turn off all communication options with teammates or opponents during solo sessions.
