My Plex media server isn't working with the Samsung Cu7000 55 Smart TV when using the Plex app. Playing on other devices, like my Windows 11 gaming PC, is smooth. The dashboard shows the first five seconds of the media before it starts buffering, then displays a "Playback Problem" message on the TV itself. Once that appears, the stream stops and the progress bar and play/pause controls appear, but clicking through chapters still causes the error. It seems unrelated to transcoding issues, since the PC stream also works after conversion. The TV runs Plex version 5.90.1 on software version 2000, connected via Ethernet directly to the router. My laptop is a Windows 10 machine with an Intel Core i5 processor and a 24GB DDR4 SSD. I'm using a Kingston NVME SSD (120GB) for Plex files and another Seagate HDD (1TB). The device I can stream on is a Windows 11 PC accessed through Opera GX, though I can share its specs if needed.

Streaming to your Windows PC indicates your server is operating correctly. It seems the Samsung TV might be the issue. Did the TV previously connect to the Plex server? I own a Tizen Samsung TV and have faced several problems since Samsung frequently releases updates that disrupt certain features. I turned off auto-updates (hidden setting) but it's already too late. Please let me know if this helps.

the tv connects to the plex app and displays all my movies and shows. I remember once it worked when I set it up a short while ago, but since then i haven’t seen any loading screens during playback. i’m wondering if there are special settings or configurations to improve plex performance on samsung screens. Is there another way to make plex function better on my tv? Edited January 6, 2025 by Beskar_Armour

It's a decent TV with a budget price, but the included chip isn't powerful enough for smooth Plex streaming. For a more reliable experience, consider a $20 on-streaming box from Walmart if you're in the U.S.

Sure thing. It makes sense now. You could probably find some old PC components to reuse instead of buying new ones, or you could grab a used case. Appreciate the tip!

PC HDR options are inconsistent across various sources, but most work well via Plex. The only exception is Dolby Vision on Samsung TVs, which isn’t supported there either. It should be a good investment.

Got a new ONN stick for $14 and it’s performing perfectly. Appreciate the tips! Now I’m curious why Samsung doesn’t include around $5 worth of hardware right out of the box...
