I'm planning to set up Xubuntu on your mom's old netbook for two main reasons. It runs smoothly on netbooks and is relatively stable across different systems. She’s had some trouble with Windows before, so I want something reliable. My sister has tried various fixes—like using Avast in advanced mode—but still faces issues. She needs an OS that’s easy to manage and secure. Make sure it’s 64-bit if possible.

I don’t understand much about Linux, but I looked into it just because of this

Using Xubuntu allows you to remove many elements entirely, leaving no room for further action.

Your sister is probably around the same age as you, but I don’t have enough information to say for sure.

She installs many of those low-quality games and browser bloat that fill up browsers with numerous toolbars and extensions. She insists on using Chrome, even though Firefox runs faster. I got frustrated when she switched to Dell’s version because it slowed down after the initial speed. I checked her add-ons and found at least a dozen that are harmful.

Ahem. It seems my experience suggests Chrome runs best on this laptop, while Opera and Firefox aren't quite as smooth. Maybe Linux Mint would be a better fit? I've heard it's one of the more user-friendly Linux distributions besides straight-up Ubuntu.

I'm surprised you're willing to wait for a PC, but I understand your need. Just let me know what you need, okay?

This setup isn't intuitive to adjust. The web interface should be straightforward. I have a reference for the ASUS Eee PC 1001PXD with that configuration.
