I just need the extension to open Gmail with the web address in the compose email body. I discovered extensions named "email this page" that seem to fit, but Firefox warns about accessing data for lawnscanner.com. That doesn’t sound right. I’m switching from Opera to Firefox, and on Opera the extension "share link via email" works well (though updates sometimes break it).

firefox includes a feature that automatically opens mailto links when instructed, such as with gmail. don't use anything similar yourself, but it seems to match your preference. have you explored this built-in function? or is there something missing regarding the email address or desired action?

No..thanks for replying but I might not have explained it clearly.
I think Firefox used to let you "send as link as email" long ago....
1) you are on a webpage (possibly the one you're checking now)
2) you right-click and choose "send this link" (or if no click, select the extension and your default email client opens, like Gmail in a new tab or Thunderbird, etc.)
3) the message body contains a link to the page you wish to share.

Oh, okay that now makes more sense. I didn't even attempt it before, aside from looking it up online, so I can't really help you.

I’ve faced the same problem, and it’s odd that a straightforward solution isn’t available anymore. What helped me was configuring Gmail as the default client in Firefox. After setting that up, clicking mailto links instantly opens Gmail in a new tab, making it simple to share links.

Additionally, I discovered another option: ChatGPT for Gmail. This plugin streamlines email writing in Gmail by offering useful tools. Although it doesn’t directly automate sending links from Firefox, it enhances the process of composing and sending emails with links, especially when you need clarity or polish in your messages.

There is worth in maintaining a straightforward method for sharing webpage links with others. This is particularly useful for individuals who frequently do so.
Regardless of how it is carried out.
Still, I believe it is generally wiser to take a few more careful actions before sending a link.
This reduces the chances of accidentally passing something on and later regretting it.
Even for those who are very cautious or deceived.
Occasionally these additional steps lead to a moment of reflection, causing the sender to either pause before sending (i.e., "sleep on it") or choose not to send the link at all.
