I built a setup with an fx 4300 not oc, a gt 1030 fully oc'd, a 430w psu, and 6gb ram. It’s connected to a gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 board—this should support overclocking safely. I’m considering water cooling the CPU and would appreciate precise figures for safe overclocks.
I have never managed to overclock successfully; I experimented with an i7 870 but realized I lack a motherboard that supports true overclocking. However, I believe a power supply of at least 700 watts is necessary. I play games frequently enough and am content with a resolution of 1280x800 as long as the game runs smoothly without lag. I don’t mind compromises. The main issue is that most enthusiasts prioritize the latest processor and graphics card just to play at the highest resolution. I prefer this approach rather than attempting CPU overclocking, since I know I’ll likely upgrade later to see better results. Some users have faced problems overclocking the FX4300 with low-wattage power supplies. In my view, if it runs your games adequately, it’s best to leave it as is until you’re ready for a change.
