Hey everyone, just wanted to check if the 400W cooler MasterMasterWatt Lite with 80+ white will work for my Ryzen 5 2600X and GTX 1070. I thought it would draw around 380W based on the PSU calculation. What do you all think? Need this done quickly for the build!

It seems okay for now, but I wouldn't rely on it under heavy or long sessions, especially gaming. If it's been around five years or more, a PSU with a bronze or silver rating and over 650 watts would be safe.

Nvidia suggests using a PSU with a minimum of 500W for that GPU. The problem with GPUs is they experience huge power surges for just a few microseconds when under heavy use—this can happen unpredictably and is unavoidable during intense gaming sessions, often drawing twice to three times the GPU's rated power. If your PSU can't handle this demand, you might face crashes, graphical issues, or even monitor failure. It looks like you'll need a more capable PSU.

This situation is similar with today’s GPUs (Nvidia 30 series and Radeon 6000), though it’s a more recent concern. It seems unrelated to the 10 series, which were praised for being more energy-efficient and offering stronger performance. I don’t believe overclocking 2080 Ti was the main issue either. Still, I agree replacing the power supply unit is a solid recommendation.

I saw a gamer's nexus video discussing this problem, which seems to affect most GPUs these days. The concern is stronger now due to increasing power demands.

It's true, I saw the same video before. When I revisited it, you were correct. It's all about the details, but I still believe a 1070 won't generate spikes that halve its power consumption. It's safer to assume otherwise.

the 1080ti featured in that video isn't the same as a 1070 model, and it highlights various setup differences leading to varied outcomes. a single sample size isn't sufficient to make broad conclusions. however, the masterwatt lite PSU shaped doorstop isn't a recommended option at all.

Thanks for the feedback! I went with a larger PSU but still not seeing any post. My motherboard is a B350F ROG Strix with a 2600X and a GTX 1070. The GPU tested on another PC and functions properly, and the RAM sticks are fine. That leaves the motherboard + CPU. Any suggestions?
