Please assist in choosing PSU 850W
Please assist in choosing PSU 850W
Hello everyone. I’m searching for a PSU suitable for this build (no need to overclock):
- MoBo MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus
- i5 10400 32 RAM RGB Corsair (2x16) 1 TB NVMe 1 M.2 NVMe 1 TB SN750
- 2 SSD Crucial MX500 Sapphire Nitro RX 6700 XT with 3 x120mm RGB fans (comes with Iceberg case)
- 3 Noctua NF-F12 PWM fans
CPU cooler: Noctua NH-L9x65.
I’ve checked online wattage calculators and received recommendations between 550W to 700W (Bronze/Gold). Some suggest adding an extra 100W for better protection.
Because the results varied, I chose this model and would value your advice.

*** 3) Corsair RMx (2021)

If you’d like to propose another option, please let me know. Thanks a lot! 😀
Hello there, fresh face! I’d recommend the Corsair model among the three. Having extra space really helps both you and your setup over time.
Most calculators perform poorly. A GPU reaches full load at 250 watts, the CPU hits 86 watts during turbo boost, and the rest uses around 80 watts. The full system reaches about 410 watts under stress. Running the PSU at roughly 60% capacity would require a 656-watt unit. An 850-watt PSU would provide ample room for future upgrades. I also support the idea of purchasing a better CPU cooler and avoiding the stock one.
Hey, I can confirm the RM850x performs perfectly in both of my builds. Your components need more power than your system provides, so you're in a great spot. Also, watch out for temporary voltage spikes that might trigger your PSU to cut off. The wattage estimate doesn't include these spikes, which research suggests can be as short as a millisecond.
