Hey, I just began The Witcher 3 and the frame rates are quite different from what most YouTube reviews show. My system specs include an i7-5820 K with 16GB RAM, a GTX 980 Ti (MSI gaming card with 6GB), Windows 10, and driver 364.51 which I updated on March 27, 2016. I have V-sync disabled and set Unlimited FPS. Here’s what I’ve tried:

- Ultra settings: All enabled, 1080p, Hairworks off – 20-35 FPS
- Low settings: All enabled, 1080p – 70-90 FPS
- 4K settings: 20-25 FPS

In the beginning of the game, things were a bit rough. Spoiler alert: Geralt and Vesemir just killed some necromancers around their campfire, and Vesimir wants me to mount the horse. Anyone with similar issues? Any tips would be appreciated! I’m really excited to play and hope this helps. Thanks!

The top three figures are: 58% GPU utilization, 99% fan speed, and 52% memory clock.

Adjust GPU temperature to 70°C. Current CPU usage at 99%, temperature around 50°C, RAM utilization near 20% with 5000MB storage.

You might be experiencing a driver problem—consider a fresh install using DDU, or if not, opt for the Custom installation option in the NVidia installer, marking a clean install in the module list. To note, I achieve over 60 FPS with near-maximum settings at 2560x1440, though your clock speeds differ from mine. You may need to adjust settings for TW3’s post-processing features. Common issues often stem from Hairworks (already referenced), excessive anti-aliasing, and foliage visibility ranges. Keep in mind that 25 FPS on a modern Intel CPU with a custom air-cooled 980Ti is far below what I see at 1080P.

I was around 60 fps in 1440p ultra with adjusted ini for better graphics before patch 1.10. After the update the frames dropped to 25-35. I couldn't get it running like before again. Since I had my Playthrough finished, I deleted it.

I attempted it again. Unfortunately, no improvement in frames per second.

I also attempted some previous versions, but they didn’t help. I installed the latest driver update 364.72 (released 28.03.16), yet there was no improvement.

It seems these issues are mainly linked to The Witcher 3. Have you tried running other games to see if the problem persists? It can be frustrating to test benchmarks while dealing with installation hassles.

Fallout 4 runs smoothly at ultra settings. Struggled a bit with ubersampling in Witcher 2 at 1440p, but didn’t pay much attention because I know it’s a bottleneck for frame rates. Borderlands the prequel handled okay in 1440p and mostly worked well at max settings. My PC was built this winter, so I haven’t played many games yet. Now I’m concerned I might have achieved even higher FPS from the few titles I’ve tried. I’ll check 3Dmark and Heaven and share my findings here tomorrow when I’m back home.

Here are my benchmark findings: Firestrike at http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/11446737 achieved a FPS of 74 with a score of 1864. Minimum FPS was 16.2, maximum reached 138.1. Rendered in Direct3D11 at 1920x1080 with 8xAA fullscreen. Used a custom preset called Ultra Tessellation. Extreme HW monitor indicated a clock speed around 590. MSI gaming app and Afterbruner reported approximately 1350 FPS. Tried resetting and reinserting the card, but no change was observed.
