I attempted to launch Skyrim SE today using my Xeon E3-1220v3 and GTX 970 graphics card. Initially hopeful, I set the game to maximum resolution at 1080p and expected smooth performance. However, I encountered poor frame rates around 40 FPS in the mid-30s. Running at lower settings allowed me to achieve a stable 60 FPS, but it still felt insufficient. It seems there might be an issue with the game's compatibility or performance on my rig. I haven't progressed beyond the prologue yet, just to be safe. How does the game perform on your system?

Your 970 was averaging 65 points per minute over 58 minutes on Ultra.

I tried it this weekend on my main rig in the signature setup. It auto-adjusted everything to maximum performance, which brought me about 40-50fps on average. After switching shadow distance and quality from ultra to high, I got steady 50-60fps. Compared to that, it seems like a driver problem. With my original Skyrim having 2k/4k texture mods plus around 20 other graphics enhancements, it runs much smoother at 70-80fps. The game just launched, so give it a month for the driver to mature.

Your setup has sufficient power, likely a software problem.

Sure, I believe I should wait about a month or two. I can try playing other games while I wait.

Sure, turning godrays down or switching them off usually helps. It just uses a lot of GPU power, even on my 1070, sometimes dropping below 60 due to the load, though it never goes under 50 and my monitor handles 50Hz so I keep it at high.

Holding off for an update will boost performance significantly, giving you solid frame rates on your 970. Updates to Godrays usually don’t change much, so expect only minor improvements.
