Playing Running Just Cause 3
Hello, the Steam sale is active now. I’m thinking about getting Just Cause 3. I’m aware it has some problems on many PCs. My setup includes an I7-5820k processor, stock EVGA GTX 980 Ti with ACX 2.0, SC 32 GB DDR4 RAM, and Windows 7 Professional. If anyone has tried it, I’d appreciate hearing their experience.
I assembled a PC for my friend using those specifications. It performs well.
I bought Just Cause 3 and it runs terribly. It has this online option that tries to connect every few minutes unless you block it with the Windows firewall and then it still tries to connect when you start the game. It stuttered like crazy which I tracked down to a vram problem. I should not be getting vram problems; I have 4gb of vram and 8gb of ddr3. I mostly got around this issue by going to low textures but it still stutters occasionally (I heard having more normal ram helps so it might be non-existent on a rig with 32gb). It has some of the worst aliasing I've seen of any game even with aliasing turned up all the way. And now it's crashing every time I try to start the game. I think I need to reinstall it. It also doesn't look a hole lot better than Just Cause 2. Except for the water; the water is beautiful. I'd recommend not buying Just Cause 3 until it reaches bargain basement prices. Get Just Cause 2 instead; it's 90% as good for 10% the price. And it runs phenomenally even on my old computer that has a terrible graphics card. It just makes no sense. I blame Denuvo. They ruined Just Cause 3; I know it. Edit: Blaming Denuvo was obviously a joke but I have encountered stuttering similar to Just Cause 3 in all other Denuvo games I've played (only Mad Max and Arkham Knight) although not as bad. I originally thought Denuvo was the root of the stuttering but after discovering the vram issue I'm not so sure anymore.
Someone behind the original project didn’t contribute to those other JC titles. Also, Mad Max, which was developed by the same team as JC1/2, is available on Denuvo and performs very well—just like Doom, MGS5, BF Hardline, Star Wars Battlefront, and Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Using your budget Potatoe model might yield 5-10 frames per second at low settings in 720p.
Just Cause 3 performs well with Nvidia graphics cards but struggles on AMD ones.
