I received my new computer with an ASUS Z97 K motherboard. After applying some Microsoft updates or BIOS changes, including USB 3, I rebooted and found the mouse, keyboard, and headphones stopped working. Only the BIOS was affected, so I reinstalled Windows. This issue is recurring. What steps should I take to avoid it again?

It seems the update went awry. You might have simply performed a Windows recovery to undo the change that triggered this issue. Continue using it normally.
