On a 2010 MBP i5 with 16GB RAM and 850EVO, fine performance on a 2012 MBP i5 with 8GB RAM and HyperX Savage in High Sierra. Not fine on a 2011 MBAs i5 with 4GB RAM and SSD (use Mavericks or upgrade fan drive for better results). Keep RAM at minimums and use faster storage if available.

I used Captain and Sierra on a 2009 A1342, and aside from Siri, I didn’t see any noticeable changes (besides an app store that allows downloading iWork).
