Hello, I’m curious about my ability to run Grand Theft Auto 5 and Subnautica at medium or even high settings, maintaining a reasonably consistent frame rate. My goal is to achieve at least 40 frames per second, if possible. Here’s a breakdown of my current hardware: an i5-4460 processor clocked at 3.2 GHz, a GT 1030 with 2 GB of GDDR5 memory (I avoided the DDR4 version due to reported issues), 12 GB of DDR3 RAM running at 1600 MHz. I acknowledge that a more powerful graphics card, such as a 750 Ti or 1050/Ti, would have been preferable, but I prioritized lower cost and reduced power usage for my present needs. [Edited] I neglected to mention that I plan to display the game at a resolution of 1360 x 768.

Considering that I’ll likely need to adjust some settings to achieve a playable frame rate, I would greatly value any suggestions regarding which options to reduce without significantly impacting visual quality.

This video likely contains the solution, as this creator uses identical hardware to you!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4Y4bQ-bTuM
The visuals appear capable of utilizing a range from moderate to elevated graphical settings, resulting in an improved appearance compared to older consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3, and remaining relatively close in quality to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions while achieving a significantly higher frame rate – more than double! Considering that 1360 x 768 represents a relatively modest pixel count for contemporary graphics cards, you should experience satisfactory performance.

This video likely contains the solution to your problem, as this YouTuber utilizes identical hardware – processor and graphics card – to yours. The visuals appear capable of utilizing a range of settings, from moderate to high, resulting in a significantly improved appearance compared to older consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3, with performance only marginally below current-generation PlayStation and Xbox systems while achieving more than double the frame rate. Considering that 1360 x 768 represents a relatively modest pixel count for contemporary graphics cards, you should experience satisfactory results.

Here’s an alternative version of the text:

This video likely contains the solution you need; this content creator uses precisely the same processor and graphics card as your system!
The video suggests a range of graphics settings from moderate to high will produce significantly improved visuals compared to older consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3, and it will closely resemble the performance of the PS4/Xbox One generation while providing approximately twice the frame rate. With a resolution of 1360 x 768, which is relatively low for contemporary graphics cards, you should experience satisfactory performance.
I appreciate the prompt reply; I had been searching for this information and unfortunately overlooked it, so thank you! I’ve observed that they've configured texture quality to standard with all other settings at maximum, achieving a frame rate between 60 and 80 fps. Would increasing the textures to high settings be feasible, or would that result in a substantial decrease in frame rate?

The visuals appear to be suitable for a range of settings, from moderate to high, resulting in an improved appearance compared to older consoles like the Xbox 360 and PS3, while also closely matching the performance of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. You should experience approximately double the frame rate! Considering that 1360 x 768 represents a relatively small number of pixels for contemporary graphics cards, you should be satisfied with the results.
I appreciate your prompt reply. I had been searching for this information and inadvertently overlooked it, so thank you! It appears they’ve configured texture quality to normal while maintaining all other settings at a high level, achieving frame rates of 60-80 fps. Would it be feasible to increase the textures to high, and would this negatively impact performance?
It’s uncertain; I'd recommend experimenting to determine the outcome.

It appears you can achieve a range of graphic settings from moderate to high, resulting in an improved visual experience compared to the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3, and performance that closely mirrors the PlayStation 4/Xbox One versions while significantly boosting your frame rate. 1360 x 768 represents a relatively small number of pixels for contemporary graphics cards, so you should experience satisfactory results.
Thank you for the prompt reply. I had been searching extensively and unfortunately overlooked this information, thank you! I’ve observed that they've configured texture quality at a standard level while maintaining everything else on the highest setting, achieving frame rates of 60-80 fps. Would it be feasible to increase the textures to high resolution, or would this lead to a substantial decrease in performance?
It remains uncertain; I’d advise testing it and observing the outcome.
Noted. The 1030 will be delivered tomorrow, so I’ll certainly perform this test then. I've been attempting to gain a preliminary understanding of what to anticipate. Remarkably, this has proven to be a welcome discovery considering its affordable price.

It’s possible you'll encounter issues loading textures within the game if you selected “High.” You likely require a graphics card with enhanced performance and increased memory to successfully utilize elevated visual settings. Grand Theft Auto 5 demands a significant amount of video memory because its textures are considerably larger than those found in previous titles within the series, and even the roads themselves feature individual textures.

Regarding performance:

Hmm... you may experience difficulty loading textures within the game if you selected “High.” It’s likely that a graphics card with enhanced onboard memory would be necessary to operate at elevated visual settings.

That was my concern. Once I can, I’ll experiment with different configurations to determine what performs best. Thank you for your assistance.

Gladly, you could potentially reduce population levels and possibly improve shadow performance, although the primary issue is game textures consuming significant memory.
