You can't connect the 6pin Mobo to a PCI power port. It doesn't work because of compatibility issues. This might cause your GPU, motherboard, or power supply to stop working.

You're correct. I conducted more research and the best choice is to use a GT 730/740 (GDDR5) without any external power. It should meet your girlfriend's needs. Thanks for your input on this!
