Hello everyone! I have a quick inquiry. I just received an HP 6000 PRO tower from work—it's quite old, and two of the RAM slots are damaged. They suggested discarding it, but it still has an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 processor. I’m considering keeping it for a short time, building a temporary gaming rig for my girlfriend who’s currently gaming on her laptop. She needs a better setup since her machine struggles with other games. I’m planning to upgrade the motherboard, which will cost around 15€, and I already have a 500GB HDD and 8GB RAM. I’m curious—will this setup support light 1080p gaming with a 550ti or 650ti processor? She mainly plays League of Legends, but she’d benefit from a more stable system. I’m budget-conscious, aiming for about 100€ total for the graphics card and motherboard if it gives me decent performance. What do you all think? TL;DR: Should I go ahead with the HP 6000 PRO for gaming?

550ti plus q8400 offers a solid 1080p setup that works well for budget games like Rocket League and CS:GO.

I explored further details about upgrading this model and discovered installing any of the mentioned GPUs would require a PSU upgrade. The reason is both cards need a 6-pin power connector, but the only available 6-pin connector on this PSU is connected to the motherboard. Unfortunately, since the motherboard and PSU are proprietary, there’s no way to upgrade the PSU. I found a potential solution: use one of the 6-pin connectors from your PSU to power both the motherboard and GPU. If that poses risks, I’d consider a card that supports decent game performance without extra power extensions. Any suggestions on suitable cards?

750Ti lacks power connectors; even some 1050 models don’t have them.

It looks like both 750 and 1050 watts exceed your budget. Considering adding a GeForce GT 730, it might be suitable for your needs.

Ehh...I have one and while its nice for 1080p for something like CS:GO. If you are to get it though always get the GDDR5 version. ALWAYS GDDR5. I cant stress it enough, the DDR3 versions are about 40% slower than the GDDR5 versions for the same price
